Libya – Changing Dynamics
Today, Speaker of the Parliament of Iran said “The war they launched in Libya is aimed at seizing land and oil. That is why they triggered chaos in Libya’s political landscape. The same goes for Venezuela”.
Meanwhile, Spokesperson for the UN-backed Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA), in trying to press Turkey to help them has said, “Libya has reactivated old agreements with Turkey and also made demands on new matters” – but would it be wise for Turkey to intervene at such a time when Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are standing with Haftar?
Though Erdogan has called Haftar a dictator, but he will probably remain verbal in his opposition for Haftar at the most.
On Thursday, French minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said in an interview that “France is in Libya to combat terrorism” and explained that France is supporting Haftar because ‘its opponents’ camp, among the militias there are perpetrators of armed attacks, specialists of predation and jihadists’
The Guardian said, ‘Donald Trump has thrown US policy on Libya into turmoil at a moment when Tripoli is under attack and the country is on the brink of a full-scale war once again’
And the Bloomberg said that ‘Trump Has a New Favorite Strongman in Khalifa Haftar’
