Libya Tripoli Offensive Round Up
Wednesday 22 May, Libyan Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar told French President Emmanuel Macron that he was willing to negotiate a ceasefire in Libya but the conditions were not yet right. Haftar was in Paris for a meeting with Macron.
Haftar has told French President Emmanuel Macron that an inclusive political dialogue was necessary and he would be ready for it if the conditions for a ceasefire were in place.
On Tuesday Libyan Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha met with the French ambassador Beatrice de Helene in Tunisia and discussed mutual cooperation in security, anti-terrorism, corruption and money laundering.
Meanwhile, Head of Tripoli-based Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj met in Tunisia with President Beji Caid Essebsi and discussed the current developments in Libya and the repercussions of the attack on Tripoli.
Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE and France back Haftar and the Tobruk-based authorities. Egyptian and French naval forces carried out on Tuesday a maritime training exercise in the Mediterranean Sea.
